What were you thinking, Sylogist? Were you thinking?
If you were a very large company that traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange… would you not keep the people who learn whatever is asked, who ask for new opportunities, who cross walk the divisions easily, who are sought out as a team member, who work 60-70 hours/week when needed to bring a project to successful fruition? I would. Not Sylogist, tho.
My skill set includes Dynamics365 design and configuration, business analysis, project manager duties, QA, testing, Azure DevOps, accounting, requirements gathering, Scrum Mastering, photography, communications, writing, victim services, grants management (federal, state, local), government contracting, and generally being a unicorn. Unicorns are kind of a big deal and if you had one who LOVED their job and did it well, would you not keep them? I would. Not Sylogist, tho.
On Wednesday, January 17th at 2 pm, I was informed my position had been eliminated, and that January 17th was my last day. No warning. Needless to say (but I will anyway) I was blindsided. It was a short phone call. I hope I was classy about it. I think I was. I did not know whether to punch a hole in the wall, or sit in a corner and cry. Neither seemed like a workable solution, so I did neither and began to plan my next moves.
The really crap move was to have the insurance (covering me and two children) end at midnight on the 17th. WHAT?!?!
I got two weeks pay in lieu of notice and was offered four weeks of severance pay IF I signed what constituted a gag order. For those of you who know me both before and after my transformation to a honey badger, you know I do not respond well to authoritarian controls. I did not and will not sign it. They can keep their 30 pieces of silver.
I will not disparage or lie about Sylogist. Why would I? It will become evident to them very soon that they made a grave error in judgement by firing me. (and the other three members of my team who are equally skilled and critical to the success of our public good projects)
By the way, OPEN TO WORK. Spread the word.
